7th Bead Soup Revel --- Second Revel

Well as usual I am running a bit behind in posting my blog.  I received a fantastic Bead Soup from my partner, Judy Robinson She turns plain ordinary wood into beautiful Native American flutes, vases, beads, and cabochons.  I have had much fun reading her blog and learning about her skills.
As I said Judy sent me a fantastic bead soup. In case you didn't see my earlier blog, here is a picture of what she sent me.

The first item I played with was the number 11 seed beads.  I set up my loom and began a bracelet which I love!!

Then  I kept staring at the two cabs she made.  The larger one is beautiful but the smaller cab made out of  splatted maple just kept calling me.  The markings looked so much like the beach and ocean horizon.  So I dug into my stash found a sea shell and two fossils and went to work.  (Let me tell you although I am not happy that Lori has been so ill I was thankful for the extension last week). This piece just grew on it's own.  A friend asked me where do you get your ideas for the bead placement and my response was "the beads go were they want to."  I think that this is one of the best pieces I have made and the first I have titled-  A Walk Along The Beach.  I know there aren't too many lavender boardwalks but in my bead world there is.

The revel for A Time To Stitch Blog Hop!!

Recently, I decided to join the "A Time To Stitch" blog hop hosted by Therese Frank and Christine Altmiller.  It was an easy hop, all we had to do was create something in peyote or herringbone stitch, take pictures of it and blog about it on June 12th.  Easy, right?  Well, I found that I really wanted to do something different in peyote stitch, so I found a great flat spiral peyote stitched bracelet, made the bracelet, promptly forgot to photograph it, and sold it at my last show.(Guess I should not wear cool jewelry to shows. This lady bought it off my arm.) DUH!! dummy me!  The pattern was in Beadwork mag., June/July 2010 called Color Swirls by Marcie Abney. It was is three different shades of teal and sliver.  I just might have to recreate the bracelet.
So next idea, I would finish a couple of projects, all that had peyote stitch in them.  The first two are necklaces that have a peyote stitch slider on them.

 Bugle beads, czech crystals with a multi-strand bugle bead necklace.

8/0, 11/0, seed beads, 4mm and 6mm czech crystals with a dutch spiral necklace.

Then I finished the pendant for a new necklace.  Since I love (mild word) bead embroidery, I realized that every piece I do has a peyote stitched bezel for the frame work.

This necklace will be finished off with necklace of matte hematite and bronze seed beads.

Finally, I finished a freeform peyote stitched bracelet. In March, I took a class at Tada Artisan"s Boutique and Bead Store  The owner, Tammy Bacot, was in the process of just opening the store and honored my Mother and me by hosting a class for us when we in Williamsburg, Va visiting my brother.  Her store is wonderful and she is a fantastic person.

I think that this challenge has made me realize how much I enjoy relaxing and working with peyote stitch.  I now need to challenge myself and learn the herringbone stitch.

Work in progress

I joined Skye in her challenge this year.  I was able to use my camera several times this week , thus completing one of my challenges.  However, I did not complete my piece of jewelry I wanted to make this week, instead I thought that I would share a work in progress.  A friend of mine gave me this beautiful black and white sea shell so I thought I would make a necklace out of it.

I still need to finish the pendant and the rope but it will get done soon.

Then  I decided to attempt to create my own focal pieces out of a plate.  HA I now know why ironstone is so darn hard to break.  I destroyed one plate but think I mayt have salvaged a couple of pieces out of the second plate.

Now I just have to grind them down to smooth out the edges.

I also would like to share a picture of what my brother, Tom, bought at Foxwell's Antiques Store in Easton, MD.  There was a race yesterday to see who got into their wallet faster, Tom or Mom.  He bought it but I still have bets that Mom will convince him to leave it here for a while.

Night everyone, I'm off to make a couple pairs of earrings before bedtime.

Sleepless in Georgetown

Last night was rough.  I  went to sleep at 11:30, up at 12:00, back to sleep, then at 1:30, I was wide awake.  So many thoughts were running through the brain.  New pieces of jewelry I wanted to make, regrets about not improving my skills over the years, books I want to read, people I have met, quilt designs that I want to convert into beaded patterns, the CATS driving me crazy ( Tom's cat Emma is visiting Marvin right now). finally got back to sleep around 5:00 , then back up at 7:30.
       I came to the conclusion that I don't like my blog profile, so today, I am going to work on changing it.  Also I need to work on putting together kits that I want to make. This afternoon, we are going to work in the shop, cutting glass for fusing, practicing with lampworking , and I am going to shatter a plate then grind the edges to make some cabs.  I just hope the plate shatters the way I want it to. Finally, I am going to work on my Esty account.
       I though that I would share some pictures on my post today.  Last month I was involved with a Facebook Designer Challenge sponsored by Bead & Glass Boutique(www.beadandglassboutique.com ).  The designers bought a LisaPetersArt kit from them and then created a piece of jewelry.  This was the first time I bought something sight unseen. Bead & Glass Boutique posted the pictures on Facebook and followers needed to 'LIKE" their favorite piece. Everyone's pieces were wonderful so I was surprised that mine was the favorite.

The kit had the five donuts, two copper findings and the Lisa Peters cab, we had to use 75% of the kit so I did not use the copper findings and  I supplied the other materials.  I was amazed to find that I had other ceramic pieces that matched the donuts in my stash.  There was a tiny dip in the cab- perfect for a crystal but I put a seed bead in it instead. Thank Amy at Bead & Glass Boutique for sponsoring the challenge.

One of my Passions

   On April 8, 2011, Mom and I attended a three day workshop in Rehoboth Beach, DE on Bead Embroidery taught by Meg Fillmore and Moggie Moyer of Bead My Love (www.beadmylove.com) Check out their web page for more information.

We spent three wonderful days immersed in beading. Mom created the beautiful pendant in orange and I did one in sage green.

As you can tell, we had a great time.  Since then I have done several pieces for family, friends and for sell.

I am really hooked on bead embroidery.  I really think that this was my AH moment when I realized that I can create something totally unique and beautiful.
